The MTV Africa Music Awards – laconically called the MAMAS – will rise from the dust in 2021. This much has been announced by no other than our own Bonang Matheba of the House of Bonang in collaboration with the award body.
The entrepreneur made the announcement during a press conference in association with MTV Africa and MTV Base. Called the MAMAs, the award celebrates the best in Africa’s musical and creative orbit annually.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on the BET network as well as on MTV affiliated channels. A month from now, in December, the nominees for the MAMAs will be announced.
According to Bonang, the award ceremony will feature performances by various artistes from different countries. She didn’t give details of who the performers might be. Already, though, music lovers are propping the names of their idols as the best fit for performance roles.
The return of the award has been greeted with excitement not just from fans of the award but by musicians and the music communities across Africa.
