Refiloe Maele Phoolo, the South African rapper who goes by the stage name of Cassper Nyovest, has decried a situation where local artiste don’t get the support they deserve from peeps back home.
The songster made the call to support local artistes in a tweet yesterday 4 January. He said he tweets to teach but peeps only want to reply him and trend. He even predicted that the Canadian rapper Drake would hop on the amapiano train soon.
Amapiano is the in-thing in South Africa right now. Previously, many didn’t take the genre too seriously. Not anymore. Peeps from other genres, from hip hop to soul, are joining the amapiano train. Even Cassper Nyovest has songs in amapiano.
Cassper Nyovest’s call to support local artistes has generated an interesting debate online. It is apparent from the responses to his tweet that most of his fans agreed with him.
