Cassper Nyovest Speaks On Early Understanding Of Owning His Masters Since First Album Release

Cassper Nyovest talks about owning his masters from his first album

Cassper Nyovest opens up about owning the masters to his songs right from his first album.

Mzansi disc jockey, DJ Maphorisa started a conversation when he called a few artistes out for not owning the masters to their songs, one which many know nothing about. Recall that American singer, Taylor Swift has the same issues with her first six albums, which she doesn’t have the rights to.

Now, Cassper Nyovest is talking about finding out the importance of owning the rights to his songs right from the beginning of his career. The rapper has been a huge inspiration to the fans who look up to him, and this is definitely a great thing to learn from him. According to him, he owned his masters right from his first album, meaning the masters to all his songs, are owned by him.

In a chat with TimesLIVE, he said,

I have owned my own masters since my first album. It is important because it is like intellectual property. We spend so much time making music and creating these products. Artists didn’t know and big record companies would own their masters. Michael Jackson and them had to buy their masters back.

Only now in SA people are starting to wake up to that conversation. Fortunately we did our research before and I own all my own music, unlike some people.

I don’t really care any more. Social media is crazy. I say what I say, push my stuff and keep it moving.”
