Celebrated guitarist Geoffrey Arnold Beck, known simply as Jeff Beck, is dead. He passed away aged 78 years after “suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis,” according to his family.

The family announced the musician’s passing via his verified Twitter account. The family, consumed with “deep and loss,” noted the musician peacefully passed away after contracting the bacterial infection. It also asked for privacy at this unforgiving hour.

Since the news of his death broke, it has been raining condolences and recollections from around the world, with those conversant with the late guitarist and his works sharing fond memories of him and which of his works resonates with them the most.

Among those who have shared their thoughts on Beck’s passing so far are Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi. In a tweet, Tony expressed shock at the news of Beck’s death. He described the late guitarist as a nice person, an icon, and a genius.

For his part, Osbourne expressed sadness at the musician’s passing, noting it must be terrible for his friends, family and associate. He also noted it was an honour to have known the late musician.
