Celebrated Singer, Dennis East, Dead At 73

It’s the dream of many to live long and die at old age, accomplished. Some achieve that dream, while some achieve just one of the two. Iconic South African musician Dennis Eat probably achieved both. He had a mass e stroke yesterday, Monday, September 12 and died. He was 73.

The news of his death reverberated across South Africa’s music universe, with friends and fans alike, as well as fellow musicians, speaking of the impact he made in the music industry before his exit. 

According to Letitia de Wett, Dennis was an icon who enchanted her with several sterling tunes, including “A million drums,” “Dammit, I love you,” and “A rose has to die.”

According to Alfie Jay, Dennis East was a gifted soul and a family man to be proud of. He also celebrated the business sense of the late musician while touting him as someone he loves to converse with. 

Born in 1949, Dennis East began his musical career in the late ’60s. In the intervening years, he would rise to become one of the prominent voices in South African music.
