Celebrated Zimbabwean Singer Mbuya Stella Chiweshe Dead At 77

If it were possible, many people would opt to live forever. But, of course, that is not the reality on the ground. Where there is life, there is death, and now one know’s the hour of death’s intrusion – save those who opt for the suicide route.

Well, the world of music has just experienced a big loss. Zimbabwean singer Mbuya Stella Chiweshe is dead. She passed away on Friday, January 31, at her residence in the Kuwadzana suburb of Harare. She was 77.

According to multiple reports, she wasn’t feeling fine in the period leading to her death. A relative, Rector Kandemiviri,  gave some insight about her passing when he said that the late musician spoke about her time being up and the need to settle back home.

Nicholas Moyo, director of The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), also confirmed the death, noting that the celebrated singer died of cancer of the brain.

Since the news of her death broke, Zimbabweans have been sharing their best memories of the singer and the impact she made on the country’s arts and culture universe. Already, mourners have started gathering at Mukwesha homestead in Chinyika Goromonzi.

Details of her burial will be announced shortly.
