Comair Cancels British Airways And Kulula Flights, Citing Financial Incapacitation

The signs were there all along, but the reality has only just manifested. Comair has cancelled Kulula and British Airways flights, saying it can’t afford to fly.

Comair noted that from today, Wednesday, June 11, flights would no longer be operational. In a statement, the company indicated that it was voluntarily suspending its flights from today, June 1, pending when it would secure funding to resume operations.

It advised passengers whose flights have been cancelled not to travel to airports but to make alternative travel arrangements. It ended up with an apology to the passengers affected.

The announcement caught many passengers by surprise. And most of them stormed social media platforms to speak about the inconvenience of the last-minute cancellation. The tweet about the cancellation has since been deleted.

One particularly frustrated passenger insinuated it wasn’t the first time his flight would be delayed by Kulula, noting it was becoming unacceptable. He said he was supposed to fly from George to Johannesburg but had received the fifth flight delay notification.

Comair’s current challenges have been glaring for months back. But the conversations around it didn’t hit home much – until the announcement of the cancellation of flights pending new funding to continue operations.
