DA’s Tania Campbell Deposed As Ekurhuleni Mayor

In politics, the drama really never ends. This much became obvious again following the outer of Tania Campbell as Ekurhuleni mayor, dealing a serious blow to the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA).
During a sitting yesterday, Thursday. 26 October, a vote of no confidence was passed. The motion was actually brought by the ruling ANC and backed by stalwarts from AIC, ICM, PAC, UDM, ATM, NFP, and Cope.

The vote of no confidence and her consequent ouster as mayor had a narrow major of victory. Exactly 100 councillors had backed her removal as mayor, while 97 voted against her removal. So, the difference was just seven votes. The numbers would probably have been different if the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) had voted. They all abstained.

It’s unclear why the EFF abstained from voting. However, EFF Gauteng leader Nkululeko Dunga accused the DA of neglecting townships. The ANC didn’t escape his hammer, as he also described the party as a dead organization.

With Tania Campbell’s exit as Ekurhuleni mayor, the DA has been dealt yet another blow. The party has experienced waves of resignation and defections of recent. And this leaves many South Africans wondering if the losses will end anytime soon.
