Deputy Minister Of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga Losses Family Mambers In Collision On The N11

It’s a sad moment for the deputy minister of transport Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga following the passing of her son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren in a car accident on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

South Africa’s department of transport confirmed the tragedy a day after with a statement on its official Twitter channel.

According to the statement, the deputy minister’s family was travelling on the N11 between Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal when their vehicle had a head-on collision with a bakkie. The deputy minister had reportedly hurried to the scene of the incident to identify the bodies of her family members.

The department said it would share further details regarding the tragedy when it gets them from the investigating authorities. In the interim, the family is asking for privacy while they mourn their loss.

By the way, the statement elicited mixed reactions from members of the public. Some of them mentioned the minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula, accusing him of only paying attention when something happens to public figures and not listening to ordinary people.

This isn’t the first time such a tragedy would happen on the N11. But as one Twitter user had prayed, may the current incident be the last. After all, no one wants to lose a loved one.
