Disney Releases Trailer for New African Animation Iwájú

Disney has released the trailer for their forthcoming afro-futuristic animated series Iwájú.

Africa is proud of Disney’s next moves. The global company has released the official trailer for its upcoming animated show, Iwájú. We hear things aren’t what they seem in the new animated film.

Iwájú is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Kugali Media, “an entertainment company focused on telling stories inspired by African Culture using comic books, art and augmented reality.” The company further states on its official site, “Our stories respect the history, embrace the present, and imagine the future of Africa.”

Iwájú is a limited series set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria. It tells the coming-of-age story of the lead character, Tola, and her best friend, Kole, who “discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds.”

The series is set for release exclusively on Disney+ on 28 February.

The description reads: “Kugali filmmakers -including director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, production designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku – take viewers on a unique journey into the world of Iwájú, bursting with unique visual elements and technological advancements inspired by the spirit of Lagos.”

The cast includes Dayo Okeniyi, Weruche Opia, Demi Branch, Simisola Gbadamosi, and more.
