It is a sad week for South African radio as it loses one of its fine voices in the person of Bob Mabena.
Veteran DJ and radio host DJ Fresh has joined the league of peeps paying tribute to the late Bob Mabena.
Considered a veteran in the radio industry, Bob Mabena died of cardiac arrest (“heart attack”) yesterday 10 August 2020. He was aged 51. His death surprised many and left many others in tears, especially as he was said to be looking hip prior to his death
“Radio is silenced,” has been the verdict following his death. And the tributes to the man have been in torrents.
DJ Fresh, himself a veteran radio personality, is pretty pained by his death. On Twitter a few hours ago, he shared a clip Bob Mabena giving a speech, while highlighting how kind the late radio champ was to him. Check the clip below.

DJ Fresh also shared several pictures of him and the late Bob. According to DJ Fresh, Bob Mabena was very patient with him and welcomed him with open arms at Radio Mettro
The legends of #RadioBOP are reunited 😔🥺 incredible how #AldrinMogotsi was also very kind to me! When I took my Demo to Radio BOP in 93, HE facilitated my meeting with Modisane Modise! THEN took me down the road to meet the legendary Rex Rabannye!!
He really didn’t have to 🤷🏿♂️ pic.twitter.com/DnQ25nZ8M2— DJ Fresh (Big Dawg) (@DJFreshSA) August 10, 2020
