DJ Maphorisa Denies Gatekeeeping Amapiano Music

DJ Maphorisa has responded to claims that he’s gatekeeping the amapiano genre — or, as some would say, not helping to push other artists to get to the limelight.

In a tweet, DJ Maphorisa, who’s often called one of the Kings of amapiano music, made it clear that in the genre, it’s an alone thing without gatekeepers. One has to do it on one’s own, and there are great chances of one succeeding.

In a follow-up tweet, he gave examples of artists doing their shi alone and have long succeeded. Among the names he mentioned are Costa Titch and Uncle Waffles.

In the case of Uncle Waffles, he noted that it took just one event, her vibing to Young Stunna’s “Adiwele” song, for her career to be launched, and today she’s one of the most visible faces in the genre.

He urged those accusing him of gatekeeping to desist from that. You can check out his tweet below.
