DJ Maphorisa Walks Free As NPA Withdraws Assault Case

Famous Mzansi hitmaker DJ Maphorisa has walked free after the NPA withdrew the assault charges against him.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reportedly dropped charges of assault against Amapiano star DJ Maphorisa after his former girlfriend Thuli Phongolo accused him a few months back.

In May, Phongolo opened a case of assault against the Piano producer and DJ. He has since been in and out of court to clear his name. Finally, we all know the result of the case.

A Spokesperson for the NPA, Phindi Mjonondwane, revealed in a statement to ZiMoja that the case got withdrawn at Phori’s fourth appearance in court. Mjonondwane said,

“It is alleged that on Sunday, 7 May 2023, the accused (Sekowe) assaulted his girlfriend, Thulisile Phongolo, by hitting her with open hands and strangled her after she confronted him about an incident that happened the previous night where he was booked to perform. The complainant laid a charge with Sandton South African Police Service (SAPS), who acted promptly and arrested the accused.”

The incident reportedly happened at Thuli Phongolo’s home in Sandton. Porry was arrested and spent a day in the Randburg Police Station holding cells. He made his first court appearance on May 8. Mjonondwane said,

“Remember that the complainant in the matter filed a withdrawal statement. So that meant we had to look into any other areas that we had to prove our case. Upon such consideration, the office of the director of prosecutions took a decision to withdraw the case.”

Porry and Thuli have since split, and Porry allegedly took back all the pricey things he bought her.
