DJ Shimza Addresses The Current State Of South African Hip Hop

South African hip hop has been a subject of hot conversation recently, with fans of the genre and artists alike giving their opinion on the state of things.

Some fans of the SOurth African hip hop are of the view that the genre is dead, contemptuously buried by amapiano music, and with no prospect of one day shaking off the dust of oblivion.

Well, notable disc jockey and producer Shimza has also shared his opinion on the state of hip hop in South Africa. The “Dark Caves” chanter is of the view that the genre is actually dead since there are only two hip-hop artists who are going well in the genre.

The songster made this startling revelation during a sit-down with a fellow musician and DJ Ms. Cosmo. He mentioned AKA and Blxckie as the two artists who are currently doing well in South African hip hop.

And because he couldn’t think of anyone else – even if he should decide to pick hip hop artists for his One-Man Show – he insists the genre is dead.

Of course, not everyone shares his opinions about the genre. The likes of Costa titch and Flvme will make it clear that hip hop is very much alive.
