He is regarded as one of the oldest hands on the decks in South Africa, with over three decades of experience. He is revered, too, DJ Fresh.
Recently it emerged that he was instrumental in the rise of Afrotainment boss and one of the most visible names in South African music right now, DJ Tira.
Twenty years ago, in 2000, DJ Tira was just a young chap trying his hands at music. That year, as a disc jockey, he was crowned the winner of the Smirnoff DJ Competition. That same year, he travelled alone to Ibiza. A year later, in 2001, he traveled to same location with DJ Fresh, the industry veteran.
DJ Tira shared this experience yesterday Monday 6 July 2020 as his contribution to the trending hashtag #MondayMotivation. He also hashtaged his latest album, “21 Years of DJ Tira,” reflecting his musical odyssey in South Africa.
He acknowledged DJ Fresh taught him a lot on their trip, lessons that have stayed with him. DJ Tira encouraged up-and-comers to respect the industry and kick ass – not lick it.
