Dr Taylor Swift: Singer Receives Honorary Doctorate From New York University

A while back, it was announced that singer Taylor Swift would be receiving an honorary PhD from New York University. She’s finally gotten that, bringing to an end weeks of expectancy.

At the graduation ceremony held at the Yankee Stadium, Taylor Swift, dressed in a purple robe and a  black mortarboard, addressed the throng: “I have some good news: it’s totally up to you. I have some terrifying news: it’s totally up to you.”

She then delved into the realities of life, letting her listeners know that at some point in their lives, they would look back retrospectively and cringe – it’s inevitable. She used herself as a reference, noting that throughout 2012, she was dressed like a housewife from the heady 50s.

She also praised graduands at the ceremony, urging them not to be afraid of trying because effortlessness is a myth.

Taylor Swift is immensely excited about her doctorate, but her fans appear more excited about that milestone in her life. And they have inundated her with messages of congratulations since.

With the latest award, Taylor Swift joins a lean list of musicians who have been awarded an honorary doctorate for their contributions to music, society, and the arts. Congratulations are in order.
