Imagine the shock on every face when UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus du Plessis was unmasked as Wildebeest on the latest episode of “Masked Singer South Africa.” We all had our mouths open. A new episode of Masked Singer South Africa aired on S3 (formerly known as SABC 3) on Saturday 4 May and viewers were in for a huge surprise.
Wildebeest first gained love when he opened the second season of the singing contest five weeks ago with a laudable performance of “Let Me Entertain You” bh Robbie Williams. No one, not even the detectives had a clue who was behind the mask.
J’Something, Somizi Mhlongo, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe all fished for ideas when he said he had something in common with the CEO of SpaceX and that his family roots are in the land of the croissants.
Wildebeest also mentioned a “nose job,” leading J’Something and Somizi to guess that it could be Kwagga Smith, while Sithelo guessed Faf de Klerk, and Skhumba chose Pierre Spies.
Du Plessis described his The Masked Singer South Africa experience as “so much fun.” He said,
“I love music. I sing a lot in the shower, and I sing a lot in the car, so I thought, ‘let me get out of my comfort zone and take this car singing to the world’. And I loved being Wildebeest. It was a spot-on outfit for me.”
