Begging to be featured is not something people enjoy doing. But sometimes they have to do it for the love of the art and to advance their careers. And Makhadzi did just that in 2019 when she begged to perform for free at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards.
It was a superlative performance back then. And South Africans continue to recall it was the night’s best performance in 2019. However, only recently was it revealed that she performed for free on the occasion.

In 2022, the story was totally different – so different, in fact, that fans couldn’t contain their joy. They praise her for her staying power and electric performances.
At the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards this year, Makhadzi was one of the biggest winners, going home with the Song of the Year for “Ghanama,” a collaborative song with Prince Benza, and Favourite Music Artist or Group category.
Her only competition at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards this year was Maleka, who also won two awards, the Ultimate Viewers’ Choice award and the Favourite TV Presenter award.
It’s been a long journey for Makhadzi, and her success as an artist isn’t surprising. She brings so much energy to her performance and remains dedicated to her art.
