Not everyone is so good that an accomplished musician literally begs them to feature on their work. Samthing Soweto has the good fortune of being one such musician.
What really happened? The amapiano producer Mas Musiq has sampled a song by Samthing Soweto without the “Lotto” singer knowing. And when he heard the sampled song, he was kinda upset and asked why he was being sampled.
The result of the sampled song was “Emcimbini.” DJ Maphorisa begged Samthing Soweto to add his verse to it. Although he was initially upset about being sampled, the songster agreed to add his verse. The result was a big hit with South Africans and has raked a couple of awards, including “Best Amapiano Collaboration” at the SA Amapiano Music Awards 2021 and “Most Voted Song” at the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards, also in 2021.

The post elicited mixed reactions, though, with some people accusing the Scorpion King of exploiting younger artists.
