Emtee On South African Hip Hop & How He Writes His Songs

Emtee has clapped back at a critic who said he sounded like an American wannabe, insisting he’s proudly South African and writes his music in about ten South African languages.

The argument started after Emtee, using the Twitter account of his Emtee Records label, joined the conversation about the alleged death of South African hip-hop. He was of the opinion hip-hop wasn’t dead.

Responding to his thoughts on the genre, a fan had stated that hip-hop wasn’t dead but South African hip-hop is. You can check out the tweet below.

Emtee had joked about the “grammar” the fan used while describing South African hip-hop as dead. Another fan popped on the thread, reminding the “LOGAN” trap ace that he actually sounds like an American on his Instagram Stories. He ended up lumping Emtee with a collective he calls American wannabes.

Unimpressed by the tag, Emtee had made it clear that he’s proudly South African, and that he writes his songs in almost ten South African languages. He urged the fans not to play with him, insisting he loves learning languages and speaks as he pleases.

By the way, Emtee recently joined the diamond boys club by splurging about R65k on a diamond chain.
