In a tweet on its official page, the Premier League shared a list of seven nominees for the award this season and they are Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, Martin Odegaard, Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Kieran Trippier.
The debate on who should win has been pretty fierce online, with Haaland’s fans noting that he is the player to beat, having scored 36 goals – the highest goalscorer this season. Behind him is Harry Kane, who has exactly 27 goals to his name this season.
With 13 goals for Manchester United this season, Rashford comes third on the list of highest scorers. While the number of goals is important, it is doubtful it would be the ultimate yardstick in determining the player of the season. Well, time will tell.
