Eskom Crisis & Load Shedding: ANCYL & DA Clash Over Planned Protests

South Africa’s energy crisis is taking a new turn as youth leagues of two political parties are headed for a showdown over planned protests from Luthuli House to Eskom.

The opposition Democratic Alliance, abbreviated DA, has planned a march to the government house (Luthuli House) over load shedding that has been plaguing South Africa. With Eskom facing sporadic crisis, power supply has become uncertain, leading to load shedding.

Recently it was reported that the country was in the sixth stage of load shedding, leading the entrepreneur Tbo Touch to cry out on Twitter that his company might have to fold up if the power situation doesn’t increase. He was one of many South Africans jittery over loaf shedding.

Well, with the DA completely unimpressed with the power situation and gearing to erupt in protest, the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has warned the DA to desist from going ahead with the planned protests, accusing the opposition of using the “unfortunate national crisis” to score cheap political points.

The ANCYL condemned the plans of the DA, describing them as foolish and worthy of contempt.

The opposition to the protest has not deterred the DA, as party leader John Steenhuisen noted that the protest will go on, specifically targeting Luthuli House.
