Former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Moerane was recently involved in an accident and is battling for his life in a hospital.
The politico was reportedly involved in a horrific accident on Monday night from where he was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, according to sources, he slipped into a coma and had to be resuscitated.
In a statement a day after the incident, the ruling African National Congress. His condition might be critical, but the ANC Johannesburg secretary Dada Morero said the former mayor is also stable.
Moerane’s accident comes about seven months after the former mayor, Jolidee Matongo, died in a car accident after attending an ANC election campaign with President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Moerane had taken over from Matongo and served for a month as Mayor of the city of Johannesburg. He was to have contested for the regional chairperson position at the ANC Johannesburg elective conference.
Following Moerane’s accident, the spectre of postponement is looming over the conference. He was a favourite for the position.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding his accident, his fans and supporters have been wishing him a quick recovery. However, it’s unclear how long he’d spend in the hospital and if he’d be strong enough to come out for the election.
