Excitement As Inkabi Zezwe’s Big Zulu & Sjava Submit “Ukhamba” Album For Grammy Consideration

For most people, especially in this side of Africa, a Grammy Award win is the ultimate triumph – a sign that they have actually accomplished something worthwhile and can brag about.

This reality informs the massive excitement that followed the news that Inkabi Zezwe, a musical collective comprising rappers Big Zulu and Sjava, jas just presented their joint album for consideration for a Grammy Award.

The two rappers have always wanted to work together, but things didn’t work out the way they wanted until recently. This led to the formation of the group mentioned earlier. Truth be told, the two have generated so much excitement across South Africa already because of their collaborative synergy and the appeal of what they have put together so far.

In a post on its official Instagram page, the group informed its finals that it is submitting its debut album, “Ukhamba” for Grammy consideration in multiple categories, including “Best Global Music Album,” “Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical” and “Best Immersive Audio” album. The reactions to the post so far indicated that fans are excited about the duo and hoping they will win.

If they should end up winning a Grammy, they will be the second South African group to do so, after Ladysmith Black Mambazo, an all-male choral group.
