‘Fame’ and ‘Flashdance’ Singer & Actress Irene Cara Dies At 63

Famous actress and singer Irene Cara, best known for starring in the films “Fame” and “Flashdance” and singing their soundtracks, has died at 63.

The world mourns one of the most beautiful talents ever walked the earth. Irene Cara’s death was announced by her publicist Judith Moose through her social media accounts on Saturday. The actress reportedly died at her home in Florida.

Moose wrote, “Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief,” She celebrated the late actress, “She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.”

Irene Cara lived a very fulfilled life. According to her bio, she was born into a working-class family. Her family was Puerto Rican and Cuban. They lived in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City. Cara began her career as a child actor. She was credited for regularly appearing in the 1970s children’s show “The Electric Company.”

She got her big break in the 1980s after starring in the hit film, “Fame,” about a group of talented young dreamers living in New York and trying to launch their careers in the performing arts world. She also sang the soundtrack and was nominated for an Oscar. Three years later, she won an Oscar and Grammy for her work on “Flashdance … What a Feeling.”
