Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o was probably looking forward to something close to a “forever after” when she agreed to date Selema Masekela, the celebrated musician Hugh Masekela’s son, but life had other plans for her. He allegedly cheated on her, ruining the beautiful relationship they had built in one year.
The actress is devastated – pained enough to admit she was pained by it all – and saying it all because she wanted to purge her mind of any ill feelings. She took to her Instagram page and paired out her feelings in a lengthy emotional post.
The post resonated with many of her fans, who thronged her comment section to show their support for her and encourage her to look on the positive side of things, as a better man will most likely pop into her orbit again soon. Some even used their personal experiences to console her, noting that they have had similar experiences in the past. But then, they moved on with their lives and even found better partners.
One of those who tried to encourage her was her industry colleague, the filmmaker Ava DuVernay, who posted: “We lift you up with love and sisterhood. Your miracles are all around you. Let us count them in confidence and faith.” Indeed, life must go on.
