“Fantastic Beasts 3” Pulls $58 Million at the International Box Office

Ahead of its US debut, Fantastic Beasts 3 has pulled an impressive $58 million at the international box office.

The sum might be impressive but compared to how much the 2018’s “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” pulled from the international box office ($191 million, the current sum might appear like a drop in the bucket.

The “poor” showing at the international box office has been partly attributed to China battling with the COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding restrictions that have people stay home and not pop into cinemas. Fifty per cent of theatres in the country are currently closed.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” was co-written by JK Rowling and Steve Kloves. David Yates, a veteran of the Harry Potter series, directed the flick.

The international box office returns for “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” may have fallen below expectation. Still, there are some explanations for it, besides the COVID-19 pandemic that has seen most theatres closed in China. The flick also faced fierce competition from other movies, including “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.”

But will there be any radical changes in the international box office numbers in the coming days? It’ll be interesting to observe. Stay tuned, then, if you please.
