Flabba’s Killer Sindisiwe Manqele Paroled

For Sindisiwe Manqele, life began afresh on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, after spending about seven years in the slammer for the murder of her then-boyfriend and Skwatta Kamp member Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi.

Sindisiwe, 33, had stabbed Flabba in the chest on March 9, 2015, and was convicted for murder. Yesterday, however, she was granted parole.

Singabakho Nxumalo, the spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services, confirmed the release, noting in a statement that Sindisiwe was released “effectively from May 24, 2022.”

The decision to release the convict on parole was made by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) based on a submission by the Case Management Committee.

Sindisiwe’s lawyer had argued that she had acted in self-defence when she stabbed Flabba to death, but the court found that she had exceeded the limits. She was handed a 12-year sentence.

However, she only got to serve seven of those years. Now she’s out on parole. A key to the success of her parole application was that she was remorseful and noted she never wanted her former lover to die.

By the way, while in jail, she had graduated with an honours degree in business management from the University of South Africa. It will be interesting to see how she navigates life out of jail.
