Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe Dead In Road Accident

Tate Makgoe, the education MEC for the Free State, is dead. He perished alongside one of his protectors after the car he was travelling in crashed into “stray cattle,” according to reports.

Makgoe’s spokesperson Sello Dithebe confirmed the incident while also sharing some details about it. He noted that the accident happened outside Winburg on the N1. The Free State emergency services crews had been alerted about the accident and responded at about 1.30 a.m. The crew found that a light vehicle had collided with two cows and the three persons in the car were trapped.

While they managed to free all three of them, it was discovered that two were already dead on the spot. the driver survived with moderate injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he is still recuperating.

Informed about the fatal accident, the basic education minister, Angie Motshekga, was lost for words. Makggoe’s death was just simply shocking. She attributed the success of education in the province to Makgoe’s leadership and dedication.

South Africa’s education minister Fikile Mbalula described Makgoe as having served diligently and that his death was a great loss not just to the Free state but to the country as a whole. Funeral details will be announced shortly.
