Kanye West has been hopping from one controversy to another. It doesn’t appear like this will end anytime soon, especially with the family of George Floyd making public its plans to sue the controversial rapper.
But how did it come to this? Perhaps the rapper likely stepped out of line when he wore a T-shirt with the inscription “White Lives Matter.” But the real trouble erupted from his statement during an interview that George Floyd, the black American man killed when the cop Derek Chauvin placed his knee on his neck for seven minutes, died from fentanyl use.
George Floyd’s death a while back had elicited global outrage and amplified the cracks in America’s race relations, further fueling the advocacy “Black Lives Matter.”
Ye claiming during a sit-down with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN that Floyd died from drug use infuriated his family. In an announcement through their lawyer two days ago, the George Floyd family had noted that it will be suing the “Donda” rapper and his associates for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation and infliction of emotional distress seeking $250 million dollars in damages.”
The plan to sue Ye actually caught him by surprise. Well, it will be interesting to see what direction the case will take.
