A German paraglider who crashed into Lion’s Head in Cape Town, South Africa, on Sunday has died in hospital.

The man, who has not been named, had been given life support by medical personnel at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital.

The accident happened at around midday when the paraglider was performing a maneuver and flew into the side of the mountain.

Witnesses said they saw the paraglider flying in the wrong direction and then crashing into the mountain.

The man was a professional paraglider and had been taking part in a competition.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
