Gigi Lamayne Dismisses South African Hip Hop As Toxic, Praises Amapiano Artists (Video)

South African rapper Gigi Lamayne has described South African hip hop as Toxic. She made this assertion during her podcast interview with controversial rapper Big Xhosa.

She echoed the words that her compatriot Cassper Nyovest had asserted at some point. Cass had noted while addressing his “sudden” affinity with amapiano that artists in the genre are just there for groove – to have a good time without all the drama, fights and toxicity that go on in South African hip hop as rappers scheme their ways to the top.

In her POV podcast, the songstress had not only denounced what she called the toxicity of South African hip hop, but she had also hailed amapiano and lauded the support of its artists.

But then, anyone paying attention would know that this isn’t the first time she had called out the toxicity of South African hip hop. As far back as October 2021, she had noted in a post on her Instagram page that she was done with South African hip hop, noting that “it’s toxic in its own ways.” Interestingly, since she made that claim, she’s released hip-hop songs.

With her latest take on the industry, it’s unclear if she might switch to piano music.
