Headies 2019 Full List Of nominees Is Out

On September 21, 2019, Nigeria’s key and most prominent music award event, The Headies, began to collect applications for its 13th music honor with this year’s version themed ‘The Power of A Dream’.

The year in evaluation was declared as January 2018 and June 2019. The award event is slated to take place on October 19th, 2019.

Existing for over 10 years, the 13th Headies award will include 23 distinctive groups in appreciation of Africa’s finest artistes.

When nominations were opened, 29 categories were announced. But with the announcement of nominees, only 23 categories made the cut. Categories like Best Reggae/Dancehall, Best Alternative Album, Best R&B Single, Best Songwriter and two others were cut.

Last year’s edition saw Nigerian rapper, Olamide, with the highest number of nominations (10). He was closely followed by Tuface (7), Wizkid (6), Davido (4), and Clarence Peters (4).

Iconic Nigerian singers, Burna Boy, Teni and Adekunle Gold top list of nominees for the 2019 Headies’.

According to the organiser, the names were released after shortlisting of thousands of entries submitted in the year under review (from January 2018 – June 2019).

Rema, Burna Boy, Joeboy and Fireboy will battle for viewers choice award this year alongside song of the year category.

The Headies (originally called the Hip Hop World Awards) is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to television viewers across Nigeria. The 1st and 2nd editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D’banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID
