Headies Awards: Portable Reacts After Being Disqualified

There’s no reprieve in sight for Nigerian singer Portable as he continues to entangle himself in one controversy and lose the goodwill of members of the public.

The latest slap in the face of the “Zazoo” crooner is his disqualification by The Headies, one of the major music awards in Nigeria. The songster had earlier been nominated in two categories of the award, Best Street Artist and Rookie of the Year.

In a statement released on its official social media channels, the award body cited the incessant controversies surrounding the singer and even quoted some jarring statements ascribed to the singer.

In one example, Portable had allegedly threatened to kill anyone who should take “his” Headies award. He also threatened that the organisers would die if they gave “his” award to someone else.

They also cited instances when Portable claimed to have established the robbery gangs known as Ajah Boys and One Million Boys. The controversies and claims were getting out of hand, and the award body decided to distance itself from the singer by disqualifying him.

Portable wasn’t bothered about the disqualification, however. In a post soon after, he shared a video calling himself a child of light and boasting he has everything.
