Idols SA Announces Its 19th & Final Season, South Africans Express Mixed Feelings

The reality show Idols SA, which has birthed several singing talents, is about to be cancelled according to a tweet from the official handle of the competition. The news has, understandably, generated mixed reactions, with some supporting it and others sad to see it stopped.

The show had its 18th season last year (2022), with police officer Thapelo Molomo emerging winner. While the show is about to be cancelled, the organisers have also clarified that there would be a new season. The 19th, this year’s, would be the final,

As usual, the rapper ProVerb would host the show, you can check out the clip below.

Since its founding several years ago, Idols SA has been the soil on which several music talents in South Africa flowered. While some winners of the show had gone on to great music careers, others had simply disappeared from the scene and not much heard about them after their win.

For this reason, some South Africans would rather their faves don’t win. Winning, they feel, is no assurance of a great music career. After all, according to them, many who didn’t win ended up having better careers than those who won

It will be interesting to see whether Idols Sa will resurrect again after its 19th and final season.
