Somizi Mhlongo is to be replaced as a judge of reality television show Idols South Africa. In his place, organizers of the show have decided to use guest judges weekly. So you may expect some of your faves to be announced as judges in the coming weeks.
Somizi was one of the most respected judges on the reality show until his marital troubles spilled into the open. His then-husband Mohale Motaung had claimed, among others, that Somizi abused him and at some point threatened him with a knife.
In the beginning, Somizi left his lawyers to handle the issue. But with public condemnation rising, he decided to issue a statement in which he described as false the series of allegations Mohale hauled at him. He admitted their relationship had its ups and downs, however.
He also spoke of how the allegations would make him lose his income. This appeared to be true, as Idols SA issue a statement in which he clarified, without accusing or condemning Somizi, that it is against any form of abuse, letting fans know will be taking a break from the platform.
Fans have been suggesting a possible replacement for him since. Kelly Khumalo and Phat Joe are among the names flying as replacements for him. According to show organizers, guest judges will be announced this Sunday.
