A while back, he was the star of the day as the winner of the reality show Idols SA in its 18th season. These days, however, barely anything music is in the news regarding Thapelo Molomo.
The most recent news of him is that he is working on a cruise ship to make ends meet. Before that, though, he had tried other avenues of making money, including selling eggs.
The selling eggs part especially reverberated across South Africa, with some people claiming that he is broke and some asking him how he squandered the small;l fortune he made as Idol SA winner.
Speaking to Zimoja recently, the former SAPS warrant officer pointed out that opportunities are limitless in South Africa and that he took up the job on a cruise ship to make ends meet.
Some South Africans felt sorry for him that he had seemingly disappeared from the music scene after winning the reality show star prize.
But this simply brings to mind what some people now call the Idols SA curse. Winners of the reality show rarely end up having great music careers. Most lose musical relevance soon after their win and disappear from the scene, never to be heard from again
