In Pictures: Emotional Moment As AKA’s Parents Take His Metro FM Awards To His Graveside

It was an emotional moment for many when pictures of AKA’s parents taking his Metro FM Awards to his graveside emerged online. Of course, it would have been much better if AKA had been alive to receive the award, but unfortunately, he isn’t.

AKA was gunned down just outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban after stepping out of the popular joint with his associates including his former manager Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, who was also killed with him, It was devastating news for his fans, colectively called the Megacy, and the South African music industry generally.

Well, he may have been killed, but he is still very fresh in the hearts of his loved ones, which explains his parents going to his gravesite with his latest awards – received posthumously for his latest project.

AKA won the Metro FM Music Awards in four categories: Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration Song (Lemons (Lemonade) Ft. Nasty C), Best Hip Hop Artist, and Best Male Artist. AKA’s parents were on the ground alongside the slain rapper’s only daughter Kairo to accept his awards.

Thereafter the family took the awards to the slain rapper’s grave, leaving tweeps emotional and also to the point of tears.
