In Pictures: Ndavi Mokeri Projects South Africa’s National Costume For 71st Miss Universe

The Maslow Hotel in Gauteng was alight on Tuesday, December 6 as the national costume of Miss South Africa 2022 Ndavi Nokeri for the upcoming 71st Miss Universe pageant was unveiled.

The event was hosted by former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, who herself looked glamorously while unveiling the lady who is set to represent South Africa at the beauty event she had won in 2019.

Ndavi Nokeri’s costume was made by Sello Medupe of Scalo Designer. The inspiration for the design was the beauty queen’s Tsonga heritage.

Hend Henderson of Henderson Worx handled the wing, which appears to project the imagery of African women leaping into orbit from the ordinary.

About the costume, Miss South Africa Creative Director Werner Wessels gave some insight when he noted that it has some distinct African feel and projects the Tsonga heritage, which is the core of what the beauty queen is as a person.

Ndavi Nokeri herself is chuffed by the design which, on a closer look, actually amplified Africa as a continent. You can check it out below.

It remains to be seen how far she will go as South Africa’s poster girl for the Miss Universe competition next year. Of course, Mzansi is standing behind one of its own.
