Here is everything you should know about the SASSA Childcare Grant increases happening in this month of April.

Child carers should expect an increase in this week’s SASSA payments. According to a report by SA People, following nominal increases coming into effect this week, the following are what each of the SASSA Childcare Grants will payout to child carers;

  • SASSA Childcare Dependency Grant rises to R2 180. This will increase to R2 190 in October 2024.
  • SASSA Foster Care Grant increases to R1 180.
  • SASSA Child Support Grant goes up to R530.

Various factors will determine the best SASSA Childcare Grant for you. The child in your care must be under the age of 18 for you to be eligible. Also, biological parents, guardians, custodians and foster parents all get assistance.

The SASSA Care Dependency Grant is for permanently disabled children with mental or physical disabilities who require to be cared for at home. It could also be called a Disability Grant, and there are around 150 000 beneficiaries who receive this grant monthly.

The SASSA Child Support Grant is for destitute families of low-income households struggling to provide for their children. This is given to only primary caregivers with children living permanently in the home. It pays around R530.

Starting this month, the SASSA Foster Care Grant will increase to R1 180. You must be a court-appointed foster parent of the child/children to qualify for the grant. According to the agency, you cannot have Child Support and any other childcare grant running together.
