Jackson Mthembu’s Widow Thembi Mthembu Dead at 51

Former minister Jackson Mthembu’s widow Thembi Mthembu is dead. She died earlier this morning (April 14). She was 51.

Her family confirmed the death, noting she died in a Pretoria hospital earlier today.

The late Thembi worked as a nurse at a local clinic and was ill for some time until her death.

The news of her death reverberated across South Africa. And condolences have been pouring in across the Rainbow Nation.

In a statement, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) noted that Thembi worked as a nurse in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, and cherished her role as a caregiver because it brought her closer to the community.

It also extended its condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the deceased while wishing them strength as they navigate this difficult period.

Thembi was married to Jackson Mthembu for several years. Their relationship ended last year when Jackson died aged 61 from coronavirus complications. At his death, President Cyril Ramaphosa had bid him goodbye and noted that he was a dear friend.

In Thembi Mthembu’s case, the ANC noted that her loss was the nation’s loss.

Details of Thembi Mthembu’s funeral will be announced shortly. So follow us and stay tuned for updates if you please.
