James Bartlett, David Genaro On Rhythm City, Dead

The king is dead. Long live the king! But there is only one James Bartlett, David Genaro on Rhythm City, and it’s doubtful there can be anyone like him. James Bartlett died yesterday, Monday, May 23. He was 55.

The cause of his death has not been made public at the time of writing. However, a family member confirmed that the thespian had indeed left the material plane.

While many might not have known him by his real name, the name of the character he planned, David Genaro, is justly famous across South Africa.

Not surprisingly, the name is currently trending on Mzansi Twitter as the Rainbow Nation recalls his days as an actor and the impact he made while on earth.

The actor left Rhythm City around 2019 when his character was written out of the script. But then, he’d already made his name on the series as an actor of great charms.

Although the actor appears to be better known for his role in Rhythm City, he’s also started in several other flicks, including Isidingo.

James Bartlett will be sorely missed for the assured charm he brought to his roles and his contributions to South African film generally.

Details of his funeral will be out shortly.
