Beauty contests have been around for as long as one can remember. It has been an avenue where some hitherto unknown people have leaped their way to fame and a semblance of financial security. Around the world, beauty contests illumine. While some of these contests are nothing to write about and some are outright scams, many still stand out, platforms for beauties to launch into their dreams and of course charm the world.
Some of these beauty contests are local and some are international. The international ones appear to have greater resonance because they attract contestants from around the world and correspondingly global media coverage.
One such beauty contest is, of course, Miss International Beauty Pageant, known simply as Miss International, which had its origins in Long Beach, California, United States, in 1960.
Since its founding, it has gone with several slogans, including “correct understanding of Japan in the international community” and “the realization of world peace through mutual understanding.” It has also been held in different cities, from Tokyo to Beijing, and produced numerous beauty queens who have gone on to achieve a lot in their home countries.
This year’s pageant, which was held at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan, on December 13, drew contestants from all over the world. At the end of the day, of course, there was only one winner.
Jasmin Selberg of Germany was crowned Miss International 2022, fulfilling a lifelong dream of hers. Dreams indeed can come true.

1. She was a beauty before she was a beauty queen
Jasmin has always had lavish good looks even before she made it to the beauty pageant circuit. It wasn’t out of place for people to tell her just how good she looked. And she knew she was beautiful herself. She only had to decide to join the world of beauty pageants, and she has been successful at it
2. She’s a lover of education and revels in translation
Education might not appear as very important to some people, especially when they are comely – pretty good to the eyes. But Jasmin does not fall into that league. Besides being beautiful, she has an abiding love for education.
She atteneded the Evangelisches Gymnasium Meinerzhagen in Meinerzhagen, Germany, and then worked an intern at Zentrum für seelische Gesundheit Klinik Marienheide. She would take up translation duties much later at Endemol Shine Germany, where she was part of the project “Vermisst” Season 12.
She is a polyglot and proficient in Korean, Estonian, German, and English
3. She made a serious foray into the international beauty world in 2021
Jasmin Selberg is no stranger to the world of beauty pageants and that’s in the sense that her Miss International Beauty Pageant win was not her first appearance or triumph in the beauty circuit.
4. She is the fourth German to win the Miss International Beauty Pageant crown
The Miss International Beauty Pageant may have been around for several decades, but Germans have only won the crown thrice, with Jasmin Selberg being the fourth to win the crown. So, as of 2022, there are only four Germans who had won the pageant since its inception. Jasmin edged out 65 other contestants to win her crown.
5. She is 22 years and also of average height
The new beauty queen is just 22 years old, having been born in 1999. She isn’t much concerned about the age part, though. Her interests revolve around the public good, and she is the founder of Queens Raising Awareness, a collective to raise awareness about critical social and environmental subjects.
She is 5’10” tall.
