John Kani & Thandiswa Mazwai On Harry Belafonte’s Death
Harry Belafonte died recently in his home in New York at the ripe age of 96, and condolences have been pouring in from around the world from those who know him or were somehow conversant with his works before his death. Two of those people are South African actors John Kani and Thandiswa Mazwai.
In a recent tweet via his official account, John Kani had shared a picture of him with the late actor. In the caption to his post, he noted Belafonte’s role in the struggle against apartheid rule in South Africa, and that he was deeply saddened by Belafonte’s death.
He recalled Belafonte being like a brother to many of them in South Africa and how he last saw the celebrated actor in New York in the company of Danny Glover. You can check out his post below.
For her part, Thandiswa Mazwai shared slides of the celebrated actor in various stages of his life from when he was younger to when old age had taken its toll. She bid Belafonte rest in peace. Her post follows.
Belafonte died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday, according to his publicist. He had his wife by his side at the time.
