Her life is the sort of gripping story that a lot of people would want to interrogate in many forms, from books to films. And indeed, it might be said that a lot of people have done just that about Winnie Mandela.
The South African author Jonny Steinberg is one man who felt so much about the subject that he decided to write a book about Winnie. The result has been an enormous success.
Jonny’s book “Winnie & Nelson: Portrait of a Marriage” has just won the best biography prize at the National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) Awards in New York. It is the sort of news that would see an author erupting in ecstasy.
And indeed, it has been a glorious moment for the author, who also has other books to his name. It is a moment of shared joy, as South Africans are also celebrating this important win. Some solidarity.
