K.O. On The New Wave & OG In South African Hip Hop

Where are the old guards in South African hip-hop and are they still as relevant today as they were in the past? This is not a question that many would want to dwell on.

Anyway, there will always be the old guard and the new blood in the genre. K.O., one of the rappers who fall into the OG category, has just drawn a parallel between the old and the new.

While some people may not see the old and the new as the same thing, K.O. maintains that it is always exciting. He says this as a perennial student of the culture who has not only been around for decades but has kept abreast of developments in the field as well.

This explains why he is not stuck in the past but flowing with the genre to this moment, working with younger voices as well, most recently Maglera Doe Boy.

The two recently released a number dubbed “Let Me Cook,” which has been a hit with fans across South Africa. And K.O. isn’t even done yet. It remains to be seen who he would work with next and if his perception of the old and new will change as well.
