Katlego Maboe’s Emotional Return Amidst Controversies

TV presenter Katlego Maboe has made a triumphant return to the SABC 3 Expresso breakfast show. This comes nearly two years after his suspension in October 2020, following allegations of gender-based violence.

The allegations, which were brought to light by his former partner, Monique Muller, in a social media post, led to a protracted legal battle. However, after a thorough investigation, the courts cleared Maboe of all allegations in January 2022. The presenter, during his emotional return, expressed his gratitude, stating, “What a privilege it is to be back in your living rooms and to be able to welcome you to a new day with an incredible team.”

Maboe’s suspension from the Expresso show was not the only repercussion he faced. Advertisements for Outsurance, in which he featured, were also pulled from broadcast. Despite the challenges, Maboe has consistently maintained his innocence regarding the domestic violence charges, although he admitted to cheating on Muller. In February, Maboe released a statement indicating that the case had been dismissed and that he would continue to pursue legal action against four individuals he accuses of harassment and defamation.

Cardova TV, the production company behind the Expresso show, has been supportive of Maboe’s return. Patience Steven, the Managing Director of Cardova TV, emphasized the company’s stance against domestic violence but expressed relief that the legal process had concluded and that Maboe had been absolved. “He is a rare talent, and we are very happy to be welcoming him back to Expresso,” Steven remarked.

The hashtag #KatisBack trended on social media, with many fans expressing their support for Maboe. Comments ranged from admiration for his talents to joy at seeing him back on the show. However, not everyone was in favor of his return, with some questioning the decision.

Maboe’s journey over the past two years has been tumultuous, to say the least. From facing serious allegations to being suspended from a show he loved, and finally making a comeback, it’s been a roller-coaster ride for the TV presenter. As he settles back into his role, it remains to be seen how the public will receive him in the long run.
