Kaya FM has refuted claims by Former host, Unathi that she was silenced by the channel after getting fired.
It has been drama on social media since news broke that former Kaya 959 Midday Joy host, Unathi Nkayi was axed from the show. According to a statement shared by the radio station, her contract was terminated with immediate effect due to a conduct by the former host that led to a breakdown of trust.
However, the Idols SA judge has since kept mum on the matter. In a recent video shared to her Instagram page, she finally spoke out about it. She revealed that she’s been served a letter saying that she can’t share her own version of the events due to contractual agreement.
Reacting to this, Kaya FM spokesperson, Ian Bredenkamp refuted her claims in an interview with News24. He revealed that Kaya respects the right of freedom of speech.
“Kaya 959 is concerned about Ms Unathi Nkay’s unfortunate statement made in a video posted on social media on [Friday], where she claims to have been silenced by the station. “Kaya 959 notes and respects the right to freedom of speech as provisioned for by the South African Constitution and, for that reason, will not in any way attempt to restrict it for anyone.”
