Lady Zamar announced the bursary amid a recent loss at court in her battle with ex-lover Sjava. The singer had accused Sjava of rape and filed a case of rape against him. But the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of South insists there is not enough evidence to prosecute the case.

The case has since been thrown out. Mixed reactions have trailed the dismissal of her case against Sjava, with most of her supporters saying she was denied justice and asking for a reopening of the case.
