Ladysmith Black Mambazo To Kick Off SA Legacy Tour In Joburg Theatre

The iconic Ladysmith Black Mambazo will kick off its Legacy Tour at the Joburg Theatre.

The legendary Grammy-winning isicathamiya group plans to reconnect with their local audiences while celebrating their legacy. The group kicked off their legacy tour on 24 May at the Joburg Theatre and will end it on May 28.

According to reports, the tour is a celebration of Africa Month. Recall that May 25 is Africa Day. With the tour, they plan to celebrate the continent’s roots and that of the group and its origin. The group will perform at Durban’s Playhouse from 26 September to 1 October 2023.

They will be hosted by Cape Town’s Artscape from 14 – 19 November. They will also be at Pretoria’s State Theatre from 15th – 17 December. Speaking about the tour, group member Sibongiseni Shabalala, whose father, Joseph Shabalala, started the group in the 1960s, said,

“South African audiences were the first to endorse the success of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. From humble beginnings, the group broke records by being the top-selling music group in South Africa in the late 70s and 80s,”

“The overwhelming support from South African audiences and neighboring countries paved the way for Ladysmith Black Mambazo to showcase their music globally.”
